I dont think im the only one who is sick and completely tired of Grand Slam Sunday. Every year, Sky TV oh so conveniently put the big four together on a day which Sky promises will be an “Extravaganza of football.”
It never usually is. All of the teams play a cagey defensive style of football and more often than not cancel each other out. It ends either 1-1 or somebody grabs a late-ish winner. This is exactly what i predict today. Chelsea will be suffering a hangover from the game against Spurs, which was coincidentally a neutrals dream and Liverpool and Man Utd wont really do very much and play out a 1-1 draw or a 1-0 victory to Man Utd.
Its not only the matches that are predictable. The pre show segments are completely overplayed. For instance, today’s Liverpool and Man Utd match will have a segemtn hyping Ronaldo up as if he was Ronaldius, the god of Football. They will also talk extensively about Steven Gerrard and his under-achieving Liverpool side, in a segment which will show the poor performances that have incapsulated Liverpool’s season to a dramatic faux classical soundtrack which is there to hype the match. It does the polar opposite for me. If i want ridiculous hype with a anti-climatic ending then i’ll watch Wrestling. Thats what that particular sport specialises in.
Im slowly falling out of love with Premiership football. It doesnt excite as it used to as the big four realise that a point is better than nothing, that it serves everybody interests best if they play out for a draw. It keeps them happy and us disappointed. However we all know they stopped caring about what we wanted a long time ago.
I also predict we’ll see a silly tackle, which is no worse than what we see week in week out by any other footballer, but because the culprit is a member of the big four, we’ll see the tackle 1,940 times in one week. With anal-ysis by people who have made a career out of talking out of there rear ends.
Anyhow, thats my rant for today, hope you all have a good easter.
BORING!
